When will things get back to normal?

“Much of the world we’ve known was meant to be a bridge to a better way of life, rather than a final destination that was to remain unchanged.”

Gregg Braden – Author, Speaker, Geologist

Gregg tells a story about a conversation at a gas station he had in a small a mountain town. He asked the gas clerk how things were in that part of the world. The gas clerk explained that the town was struggling, the mine that employed about a third of the town had shut down leaving many without work. They were all just waiting for it to start up again. The surprising fact was that the Mine had been shut down for 5 years, and nobody knew if the Mine was going to open back up.

Hard times, struggle, difficulty, and crisis can be a bridge to a better way of life. It is natural for us to slip into despair, as we either remain stuck in the past of the ‘good ol days’ or project the current despair into our far future, never seeing escape. Perhaps that is why multiple spiritual teachers have referenced the importance of remaining in ‘The Now’.

Peter Drucker said

“Everybody has accepted by now that ‘change is unavoidable.’ But this still implies that change is like ‘death and taxes’: it should be postponed as long as possible and no change would be vastly preferable. But in a period of upheaval, such as the one we are living in, change is the norm

Peter Drucker – Father of Modern Management

Normal is fluid, and changing.

It is ‘us’ who become rigid in our view of what is normal. The life that we in America have known for the last 100 years has been a blip on the radar, a momentary epoch destined to change.

While change is difficult enough, the anxiety that many of us feel today is due to the surfacing of corruption and wickedness. We see the possibility of a dark future, and no clear ally on our side in this mortal realm. It is not as easy as pointing to a ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy’.

“Every great and deep difficulty bears in itself its own solution. It forces us to change our thinking in order to find it.” – Niels Bohr

Niels Bohr – Nobel Prize Winning Physicist (1885 – 1962)

This is not a drill, ‘normal’ will not return, and we are in this to the end. This situation calls on each of us to rise, to call on the virtues of our past leaders who lived through destruction and devastation, and to focus on living right. We are the leaders of NOW.

“There’s a time when every crisis can become transformation; when simply surviving can become joyous thriving. In our lives that time is the turning point. In our world that time is now!” – Gregg Braden
